Trichy to start work on industrial corridor CKICP

The road development work between
Perambalur and Thuraiyur has been launched by the Chennai-Kanyakumari
Industrial Corridor project (CKICP) to promote marketing activities between the
western and central districts.

This project is
worth Rs 1.32 billion.  This is one of
the other 15 projects that are running in the state. This was initiated as a
part of the East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) which included a road network
in 23 districts. This is going to be a 31 Km link between Thuraiyur in Trichy
district and Perambalur district, which will help the cement industry and
shallot traders to stay connected to the western districts.

The existing
road has a lot of steep curves which made it unsafe, so not many people were
using it. According to the sources, CKICP will realign the road and straighten
its curves. According to N Saravanan, Thuraiyur-based road safety enthusiast,
this link can be utilized by the people who transfer goods to the western
districts and Kerala from the central region. Also, the textile hubs in Tirupur
and Karur can also utilise the link to reach Chennai via Perambalur in a short
span of time.

According to an
official involved in the road project, the work is planned to be completed
before February 2023 if the pandemic situation and lockdown restrictions will
not impact the progress. The banana and shallot farmers will be benefitted
from this link.
