Karur’s textile manufacturing units shutdown for 5 days
With a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases, Karur textile manufacturers and exporters association has announced a complete shutdown of the manufacturing units starting May19.

With a spike in
the number of COVID-19 cases, textile manufacturers and exporters association
in Karur (Tamil Nadu) has announced a complete shutdown of the manufacturing
units starting today. During the previous complete lockdown situation in the
state, the export textile units were operating with 50% staff, but now owing to
a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, members of the Karur handloom
export cloth manufacturers association have deliberately stopped their
operations from May 19.

Nachimuthu, President, Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters Association, they
have been taking all the precautions and following SOPs to complete the pending
orders but as the infection is spreading at a fast pace, they have decided to
shut the units voluntarily for five days.

Senthil Balaji, Minister for Electricity, considering the increasing need for
oxygen beds for the COVID-19 patients, around
15 new beds will be set up by the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited
within this week.
