Zero discharge is the step forward

Processing itself is challenging as an industry. Yes it makes, gray fabric turn into beautiful colour and printed fabric, but the process involved in turning it is very cumbersome because it uses too much water and hazardous chemicals. The problem was started for the industry by their short term thinking & long term problem avoiding. This has landed the industry to face the reality. This issue was first seen in Tirupur area where the processors ignored the problem for longer time, and now all of them are going for zero discharge. Near Karur area, the permission for process house has not being given at all, while the Erode area still enjoys luxury of no stringent pollution laws. Now with Ganga cleaning campaign, NCR Delhi, Faridabad and Gurgaon areas will also go for zero discharge. Next it will be the turn of Ludhiana and Amritsar. Of course the main textile hubs´ Surat and Ahmedabad´will face the same stringent laws as Tirupur Perundurai. As processors, we have to accept zero discharge, as it would be norm all over India, and will have to be built in process cost. Once these facts are accepted by the industry, the processing industry will overcome the biggest headache. The problems related to pollution can be minimised by replacing existing water consuming machines with machines like lower replacing Cundy washing of printed fabric to continuous washers, soapers, replacing more MLR machines with lower MLR machines using shorter process. These are problems the processing industry faces and still industry in general has capacity to overcome these and move ahead.
