Unique shade depths with DICRYLAN® SD

Singapore: Huntsman Textile Effects, a division of Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) and a leading manufacturer of textile dyes and chemicals, launched DICRYLAN® Shade Deepener (SD) to help mills achieve shade depths for blacks and navies which were previously unattainable.

DICRYLAN® SD represents a technological breakthrough in achieving unparalleled colour depths on all fibres without any compromise on fastness properties. This is achieved through an innovative approach via the use of light scattering and light polarisation.

When light hits small particles such as the DICRYLAN® SD polymer backbone, it is scattered in all directions, resulting in a deeper shade visually as less light is reflected back. This effect is further enhanced by light polarisation resulting from the unique orientation of the polymer structure. The polymer units are oriented perpendicularly to each other and the light source. This results in a significant reduction in transmitted light and leads to a significantly deeper and darker shade.

"DICRYLAN® SD is a quantum leap forward in deep dye technology and works on all fibres," said Steve Gray, Global Vice-President for Strategic Marketing & Planning, Huntsman Textile Effects. "We have obtained increases in colour depth by up to 50 per cent and this is a significant breakthrough which will help our customers achieve much deeper and richer blacks which were previously unattainable."

"DICRYLAN® SD further supports the depths of shades achievable with our flagship range of AVITERA® SE dyes which help to increase production output by over 25 per cent without additional capital investment," said Jay Naidu, Global Marketing Director for Apparel and Home Textiles, Huntsman Textile Effects. "The state-of-the-art colour fastness and retention of AVITERA® SE coupled with the unique properties of DICRYLAN® SD make this the perfect partnership in delivering superior value to our customers and underscores Huntsmans commitment to sustainability and continued innovation."
