Garment
and textile industry of the country is happy over several states easing
lockdown and hopeful of movement of their goods in transit and pending
delivery. Vinod Thapar, Chairman, Knitwear Club, said that, Maharashtra has
relaxed lockdown curbs slightly in several cities, Uttar Pradesh is lifting day
curfew from districts having less than 600 coronavirus cases and Rajasthan has
announced easing the restrictions at some places. He added that several
business activities will start immediately and it is good for garment factories
of Ludhiana that were under extreme pressure due to piling of goods worth
several hundred crores in the factories, in transit and godowns of transports.
He also said that they are assuming that
in next 7-10 days the movement of goods will start though but will not return
to normal soon.
According
to Harish Kairpal, Finance secretary, Knitwear Club, they are relieved that
they have started receiving calls from the customers based in UP, Rajasthan and
Delhi for goods that were in transit or held up at the godowns and offices of
the transport and hoping that in majority of the states, shops, showrooms would
open soon so, and clients will be able to receive the goods.
Narinder Mittal, General
secretary, Ludhiana Business Forum, said that, it is a big relief as it is a
common practice that they cannot push the customers for payment of the goods,
which are undelivered. He added that customers are calling them for finalising
the payment schedule of these consignments.
