This decision was prompted by several factors such as the absence of orders, sluggish movement of textiles, low demand, the holiday season, and other related issues.

A meeting was held at Shri Halari Oswal Hall in Bhiwandi, where members of the Bhiwandi Weavers Association and stakeholders gathered to assess the current state of the industry. During the meeting, representatives from various industry associations deliberated and unanimously decided to shut down operations for a period of 20 days. Bhiwandi will remain closed from the November 1-20, 2023. This decision was prompted by several factors such as the absence of orders, sluggish movement of textiles, low demand, the holiday season, and other related issues.

Harsh Haria, a representative from PDEXCIL, stated that due to the Diwali festivities, there was a complete lack of demand for fabrics, compelling all associations in Bhiwandi to jointly make this difficult choice. While recognising the significant impact this decision would have on the entire industry’s value chain, powerloom weavers within the sector found themselves in a precarious position, facing an uncertain future. It was emphasised that government intervention was necessary to ensure the industry’s more effective functioning.

Furthermore, the Shri Halari Powerloom Weaver Association announced their intention to raise this matter with Piyush Goyal, Minister of Textile, seeking his assistance in resolving the challenges faced by the industry.
