Natural colour cottons are environmental friendly material. Among the four cultivated species of cotton, colour lint is reported in G.arboreum among diploid and in G.hirsutum in tetraploid cottons. White G. barbadense are inherently superior sources of fibre quality and white G. hirsutum cottons are a source of both yield and fibre quality and these have been used for improvement of colour cotton.

At the end of 2014-15, world ending stocks of cotton are projected up 11 per cent to nearly 22 mt. After increasing substantially in each of the three previous seasons, China´s ending stocks are expected to remain stable reaching just over 12 mt in 2014-15, and would account for 56 per cent of total world stocks.
The range of uses for synthetic fibres continues to grow: for instance, man-made fibres are used for the production of functional clothing or technical textiles.

Glad tidings have come from Indias man-made fibre (MMF) export front, after seven consecutive quarters of decline in its growth. MMF textile exports for the 9-month period, April 2013 to December 2013 touched US $4.2 billion against
