Bangladesh’s total readymade garment (RMG) shipment touched $28.09 billion in the last fiscal, of which trousers topped the list of apparel exports item accounting for more than 22 per cent.

The readymade garment industry is facing a huge payment defaults by bulk buyers with the prolonged economic slowdown affecting retail sales. The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) has expanded its arbitration committee to 15 members from four, so that it can provide representation to every sector of the industry.

The government of Bangladesh has slashed tax by 0.5 percent at source for readymade garment (RMG) export to make up for loss incurred during last years political turmoil. Tax on other exports has been reduced by 0.2 percent. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) announced the cuts on Wednesday, a day before the first anniversary of Bangladeshs worst industrial disaster that killed over 1,130 people, mostly RMG workers.
