Savio India Ltd was set up with an intention of providing the world-class Savio products, specific to India?s textile market. Savio India Ltd?s manufacturing facility located at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu is well set to produce a range of world class textile machines with cost effectiveness.

Savio India Ltd has a showroom located at its Coimbatore Office which showcases its whole product range in running condition. This facilitates the customers to get hands-on feel of all its products and its performances. In an exclusive tete-a-tete with ITJ?s Senior Sub Editor Karthik Muthuveeran, K Mohanraj, Vice President?National Sales, Savio India Limited, talks about the current status of the textile market in India, and its latest product offerings for the Indian and global market. Excerpts from the interview.

ITJ: How did the concept of Savio evolve?
K Mohanraj (KM):
The company has 100 years and over history, started in 1911 by Marcello Savio in a small shed. It has seen a decade of changes but the aim unchanged; looking towards new developments and inventions. Savio was the first to develop automatic winding machine RSA in 1963.

Later at ITMA in Milan during 1983, Savio has introduced RAS 15 C/I, the first link winder to the world market. Following ITMAs saw the introduction of Espero (1987) and Orion (1999) winding machines with the best in terms of industrial electronics controls available at that point of time.

Later came out with Polar family (2006), tailormade for Indian market with upgraded electronics, which is the successful solution in standalone and link version, as a matter of fact the auto-winder with the longest manufacturing life.

During 2007, Savio has established its direct investment in India, Savio India Limited near Pollachi at Thamaraikulam, Coimbatore which now produces TFO twisters ? both SIRIUS and COSMOS for the entire world market under the authority of Dr Gabriele Checchini, CEO and Managing Director.

The premises also has sales Headquarters, aftersales service HO with qualified engineers, training centre for customers, a showroom exhibiting model machines from Espero to Polar I/DLS model for winders and from GEMINIS to SIRIUS for twisters, E-Lab ? an electronic service centre highly equipped, bonded warehouse and complete spares centre for customer care.

From 2011 onwards, the SAVIO is under Alpha Group and having Eutron (Italy), Loepfe (Swiss), Sedo Tree point (Germany) and BMS Vision (Belgium) are the companies in the family. Later by 2013, the acquisition of Mesdan (Italy) made the machines produced almost in-house.

Savio used to be always the pioneer in introducing new ideas and technological developments, and was the first to introduce 72 spindles and now came out with 80 spindles in standalone round magazine model Polar M/L. Now Savio is standing tall among others with the worldwide turnover of the group at nearly 400 million euro. Since committed on continuous developments and technological implementation, Savio is spending about 5 per cent of the turnover in R&D.

ITJ: How do you look at the Indian market? What are your plans for the Indian market?
KM:
For Savio, India is the second largest market for winders as well as twisters and it is always promising with newly emerging regions. The cotton belts like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra and Telangana have attractive and promising industrial policies, which is encouraging the spinners for new proposals.

We are seriously monitoring the developments at both the new states Andhra and Telangana on the happening
