A spokesman of Meera Industries Limited gives details on the market for its machines/accessories in Turkey, and on the other export markets. Excerpts…
How long has your company been selling machines/accessories to Turkey? The story till today.
Turkey is a one of the biggest textile manufacturing clusters in the world, known for its quality products. In Turkey, Istanbul, Bursa, Gaziantep, Adana and Izmir are some of the major pockets where you will find some of the giant manufacturing facility for carpets, technical textiles, garments etc. We have been selling machines to Turkey for about six years now. Meera is concentrating majorly in carpet and technical textile segments.
What are the major products that you have been exporting to Turkey?
Meera has a core expertise in twisting technology. We have been exporting various type of twisting machines like two-for-one twister, one step S/Z twister, cabler, ring twister, etc.
How do you see the scope of the tie-up with Turkey for the future?
There could be immense opportunity for both the countries if we have some kind of close industry wise interaction. Nowadays Indian textile machines are at par with European and American machines in terms of innovations, quality and much lower in terms of prices. The only thing we need to build upon is awareness and trust, which will happen with tie-ups. Indeed this can be a win-win situation for industries from both the countries.
What are your other export markets? A brief account of them.
We have been exporting to about 19 countries around the world having a subsidiary in USA. We are aiming at spreading our wings by having our subsidiary units in Turkey, Iran, Egypt, and even the South American markets.
Can you make a brief comparison of the Turkish and Indian market, and also suggest measures for the industry and the Government to improve its hold in this market for the export of textile-related machinery and goods?
Turkey market is mostly innovative and technology driven market. They are very much quality conscious and have a futuristic views that is the reason they have been dependent upon European textile machinery brands for a long time now, but European machines and their aftersales services are always priced above the roof. That is the reason during the last couple of years, Turkish companies are exploring alternatives and that is where Indian machine manufacturer stand a chance to make en-route in such a promising market. Compared to European machines, Indian Machines are priced very economical with manufacturers taking enough care for customers satisfaction.
Participating in overseas exhibitions is the best marketing tool to showcase our prowess in the international market. But machinery exhibition are far too expensive and cumbersome to participate as it involve transporting heavy machines to the fair grounds and bringing them back. The logistics, custom duties are a real pain as they are some time more than the stand fees. On the top of that, paper work for exports, imports and re-exports are a big problem.
Both Indian and the Turkish Governments can play a vital role in easing out the regulations for the logistic and incentives for the expenses towards participation, so that we can access the market freely.
