The Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) has elected P Nataraj, Managing Director, K P R Mill Limited, Coimbatore as the Chairman for the year 2017-18. He was unanimously elected as the chairman in the 58th AGM.

The stage is set for the Carpet Design Awards which enter the 13th year in 2018. Designers and makers of modern hand-made carpets have until November 1 to submit their entries for the highly coveted award.

Harvey has come and gone and the impact Irma will have on cotton is yet to be seen. Having caused havoc in the Caribbean, category-4 hurricane Irma after slamming Florida coast according to forecasts, may move upward to South Carolina and Georgia. What influence it will have on cotton in the southern cotton growing regions like Georgia is not clear.

Demand for carpets and rugs in India is forecast to grow 5.9 per cent per year to 120 million square meters in 2021, expanding faster than any other major nation worldwide. Growth will be driven by strong gains in construction activity, expanding the size of the country’s building stock.

Disposable goods accounted for 71 per cent of nonwovens sales in 2016. Disposables markets include consumer, filtration, and medical. Demand for nonwovens used in disposable goods is expected to increase 3.2 per cent per year to $5.6 billion in 2021.

Kornit Digital has received SGIA’s prestigious 2017 Product of the Year Award for the Kornit Vulcan, in the category “Direct-to-garment printers (Color Shirt – Not White)”. The Vulcan will be on display at the 2017 SGIA Expo in New Orleans, in Kornit’s booth # 1617.
