Amritsar

As the second
wave of Covid-19 is over, the textile industry in Amritsar wants to revive.
There are a large number of units that are engaged in shirting, women’s
apparel, shawls, woollens, and blankets. The printing and dress material
manufacturers are concerned about the sale of their stuff. Due to the travel
restrictions set by Covid-19, the local retailers faced a lot of problems.
According to Akhil Jain, Executive Director, Madame, the textile industry is
the second largest industry after agriculture in terms of economic growth and
employment creation.

He also said
that the textile sector had to face the effects of the
pandemic in terms of transportation and availability of labour. He said that
the repercussions that the pandemic can have on the skilled workforce are well
known.  According to him, the demand will
not stop even if the volumes decrease.

As per Piara Lal
Seth, President, The Shawl Club of India, the local shawl manufacturers have
started booking orders and once they will return, the level of success can be
judged. He also said that last year also, the manufacturers couldn’t see their
shawls due to Covid-19 restrictions.

As per Krishan
Sharma, a warp knit fabric manufacturer, as the manufacturers are expecting
revival, the artisans and labourers have to be bought from the other states as
the factories have resumed work now.
