First NABL-Accredited Textile Testing Facility in Northeast at NEHHDC
Before this facility was established, weavers and producers had to send their products to Kolkata for testing, as there was no local facility available.
Under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) has achieved a significant milestone by establishing the first NABL-accredited textile testing laboratory in Northeast India at its head office in Garchuk, Guwahati.
This accomplishment represents a major step forward in setting high standards for testing and quality assurance in the region’s textile industry. The North East Council announced on X that the Textile Testing Laboratory at NEHHDC’s head office has become the first facility in the Northeast to receive NABL accreditation. They added that this accreditation would elevate the quality of textiles in both Indian and global markets, thereby opening up numerous opportunities for the region.
The newly accredited laboratory is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining the high quality of textile products from the Northeast Region (NER). Before this facility was established, weavers and producers had to send their products to Kolkata for testing, as there was no local facility available.
The creation of this advanced testing laboratory in Guwahati, Assam, marks a significant improvement by providing local weavers and manufacturers with direct access to top-tier testing services. This development is set to enhance and empower the NER, strengthening its competitive position in the market.
Accreditation formally recognizes competent Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), providing customers with reliable services for testing, calibration, proficiency testing, and reference material production to meet their needs. This recognition, in turn, boosts customer confidence in the quality and reliability of these services.
