Cotton pressing estimate for 2024–25 remains at 312.40 lakh bales
This estimate is based on inputs received from 11 state cotton associations and other trade sources across the country.
The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has maintained its cotton pressing estimate for the 2024–25 season, which began on October 1, 2024, at 312.40 lakh bales of 170 kgs each (equivalent to 327.83 lakh running bales of 162 kgs each). This estimate is based on inputs received from 11 state cotton associations and other trade sources across the country.
The total cotton supply for the 2024–25 season, up to September 30, 2025, is projected at 392.59 lakh bales of 170 kgs each, which includes pressing of 312.40 lakh bales, imports of 41.00 lakh bales, and an opening stock of 39.19 lakh bales.
The cotton consumption for the season is estimated at 314.00 lakh bales, while exports are projected at 18.00 lakh bales, down from 28.36 lakh bales in 2023–24. The closing stock by the end of September 2025 is expected to stand at 60.59 lakh bales, higher than the 39.19 lakh bales recorded last year.
The estimates were finalized during the CAI Crop Committee meeting held virtually on October 15, 2025, attended by 21 members representing various cotton-growing regions. The Committee also maintained its earlier estimates for pressing, consumption, imports, and exports.
Cotton imports for the 2024–25 season are projected at 41.00 lakh bales, marking an increase of 25.80 lakh bales compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, exports are estimated to decline by 10.36 lakh bales, reflecting shifting global trade dynamics.
With stable production and rising imports, the cotton market outlook indicates a balanced supply scenario for the season ahead.
