Honorary Membership is deemed as the highest distinguished recognition in the field globally.

The Textile Association (India) is the world’s largest professional association in the field of fibre to fashion supply chain with over 25,000 members. The association has members spanning all walks of this field and has been in existence since 1939.

The association recognises professionals who have contributed to the textile science field with awards such as Honorary Membership and Honorary Fellowship, service awards, etc.

In 2023, the association will award its highest award, “Honorary Membership,” to Dr Seshadri Ramkumar for his services in spearheading the technical textiles sector revolution in India. His over two decades of collaborations in India has created a strong footing for the textile sector to be self-reliant in PPE during the COVID-19 crisis. The award will be presented during the World Textile Conference-3 of the association, which will be held in Ahmedabad on February 25-26, 2023.

Dr Seshadri Ramkumar is a Professor on Nonwovens & Advanced Material Laboratory in Texas Tech University, USA. Prof Ramkumar is also an esteemed member of Editorial Advisory Board of The Indian Textile Journal (ITJ).

Honorary Membership is the highest award bestowed by the association for people who have significantly contributed to the field as well advanced the sector by creating new industrial landscape. The association has been fortunate to award its highest honour to stalwarts in the industry such as Dr Vikram Sarabhai (father of Indian Space Sector), who studied under Nobel laureate C V Raman, whose name is synonymous with Raman Effect. Other stalwarts to name a few are Kasturbhai Lalbhai of Arvind Industries; Dhirubhai Ambani of Reliance, who revolutionised the manmade fibre sector in India.

As The Textile Association (India) is the largest association, Honorary Membership is deemed as the highest distinguished recognition in the field, globally.

Mahendrabhai Patel, Honorary Secretary of TAI, in the letter to Prof Ramkumar says, “I am pleased to relay the unanimous decision of the Governing Council of the association after its latest meeting. Congratulations on being recognised with the highest award of the association.”
