The textile industry is
growing rapidly owing to the rising disposable incomes and changing lifestyle
needs. As a result the demand for quality clothing and textile products has
also increased. Textile testing is essential to ensure quality and performance
of textile items and clothing.

Textile testing basically
involves the process of determining the properties of various kinds of textile
materials. Textile testing plays an important role in textile manufacturing,
promotion and distribution and ultimately in consumption. The key purpose of
textile testing is to evaluate the performance of the textile product and to
provide an analysis of product performance about based on the test results.
Textile testing provides a strong base to manufacturers and retailers about the
quality, performance and reliability of their products before going into mass
production and distribution.

In a textile testing
laboratory, it is pertinent that before undertaking any testing, the samples
must be conditioned in standard atmospheric conditions which is 22
°C ±
1° C and humidity 65 per cent RH ± 2 per cent RH. This article explores what is conditioning of a textile sample,
why is it necessary to condition the samples before conducting any test and
