Textile industry vet Karumuttu Kannan passes away in Madurai

Kannan served on the board of TVS Motor and various other companies, while also being actively involved in the field of education, holding affiliations with multiple educational institutions.

Karumuttu T Kannan, a respected veteran industrialist, passed away in Madurai on Tuesday morning at the age of 70. Kannan, known for his notable contributions in various fields, served as the Chairman of Thiagarajar Mills, a prominent company based in Tamil Nadu. He was also a valued board member of TVS Motor.

In addition to his accomplishments in the industrial sector, Kannan was highly regarded as an educationalist. He held the position of president at Thiagarajar College in Madurai and served as the chairman and correspondent of Thiagarajar College of Engineering in the same city. Known for his dedication to education, Kannan made significant contributions to the development of these institutions.

As a graduate in business administration from Madurai University, Kannan possessed a wealth of knowledge and experience in the textile industry. Throughout his career, he held esteemed positions such as chairman of the Textiles Committee and the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, both in Mumbai. He also served as the chairman of the South India Mills’ Association from 1990 to 1992.

Furthermore, Kannan showcased his leadership abilities as the chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Southern Region in Chennai. He also contributed as a member of the Southern regional board of the Industrial Development Bank of India.

The passing of Karumuttu T Kannan marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of accomplishments in the industrial, educational, and business sectors.
