Centre approves Rs 18.94-bn Textile Park in Virudhunagar
The project targets a total investment of Rs 100 billion and is expected to generate around one lakh jobs. Construction of the park is slated for completion by September 2026.
In a significant boost to industrial development in Virudhunagar, the Union Ministry of Textiles has approved a Rs 18.94-billion plan for establishing an integrated mega textile park under the PM Mitra scheme. The initiative aims to attract substantial investments in the manufacturing and processing of technical textiles.
The project targets a total investment of Rs 100 billion and is expected to generate around one lakh jobs. Construction of the park is slated for completion by September 2026.
Spread across 1,052 acre, the park will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a plug-and-play built-up space of 13 lakh square feet. Additional facilities will include accommodation for 10,000 workers, a 15 million litres per day (MLD) common effluent treatment plant, and a 5 MLD sewage treatment plant.
The approval follows a series of discussions between the Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin and the Industries Department, and the Union Textiles Ministry. The state government views the project as a step toward establishing Tamil Nadu as a global leader in the technical textile sector.
Acknowledgment was also given to previous efforts by senior officials and ministers, who played a key role in laying the groundwork for the park. With Tamil Nadu already leading in textile exports, the state anticipates further growth and enhancement of its position in the industry.
