SRTEPC inaugurates regional office in Coimbatore

With the objective of increasing its footprint across the southern part of the country, the Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) has opened its regional office in the premises of the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA), Coimbatore. At the function held, Dr Kavita Gupta, IAS, Textile Commissioner formally inaugurated the regional office of SRTEPC. Besides, the office-bearers and past Chairmen of SRTEPC, SIMA Chairman, P Nataraj also was present at the inaugural function.

SRTEPC was set up in the year 1954 as an apex export promotion organisation to promote the exports of Indian man-made fibre textile (MMFT) products. SRTEPC today has more than 3,000 members spread across the major MMFT clusters such as Mumbai, Surat, Bhiwandi, Bhilwara, Panipat, Ichalkaranji, Erode, Malegaon, among others. The council’s head office is located in Mumbai and has regioinal offices in Surat and New Delhi.

SRTEPC, as the flag bearer of Indian exporters of MMFT, has helped many of its member build enduring and profitable relationships with the buyers in more than 150 countries across the world. SRTEPC has played a transforming role in inculcating an export culture and promoting exports of Indian MMFT, putting India among the top 10 MMFT exporters in the world by undertaking various export promotional programs in emerging and new markets in Latin America, Africa, CIS and the Middle East.

The council organises standalone exhibition and buyer-seller meets, participates in international events and takes trade delegations, thus assisting its member companies. More than 60 per cent of which is from the MSME sector to explore these markets.

The products under the purview of the council are fibre, yarn, fabric, made-ups, home textiles and technical textiles. Additionally, the council provides various kinds of data backed by extensive market research about trends, development and potential of the various markets. It circulates trade enquiries, attends and resolves complaints in case of disputes and liaison with government authorities to convey requirements of the industry and exporters to influence appropriate policy framework for the MMFT industry to thrive and flourish.

The council is run by an elected body called the Committee of Administration headed by the Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Narain Aggarwal is the present Chairman and he is the founder and promoter of the Prafful Group based out of Surat, Gujarat. Ronak Rughani holds office as the Vice Chairman. He is the Director of a 100 per cent export-oriented government recognised export house, Rughani Brothers. The convener and immediate past chairman is Anil Rajvanshi, Senior Vice President and Head-Corporate Development Group, Reliance Industries Limited. The other esteemed members today are past chairman Sanjeev Saran, Rakesh Mehra as well as Aziz Valiullah, Rajesh Kumar Modi, Pankaj Tibrewal, Subhas Chand Goyal and Sailesh Goenka.
