Mayer & Cie machines being made in Europe assuring German quality and precision. MCT unique technical features resulting lowest cost per Kg, higher productivity, consistent quality & reliability.

What kinds of changes are you witnessing in the knitting industry? How is Mayer & Cie helping the textile industry to meet the requirements of these changes?
Indian knitting sector, which was predominantly a decentralised sector and MSME in nature, is now becoming an organised, fastest-growing sector adopting international standards and product diversification. Knitting industry is witnessing investments in vertical integration, capacity expansions and mega greenfield projects. Renewed investments are focusing on energy and process efficiency, automation, environment protection and a more sustainable manufacturing technology. Sustainability will be the key for textile manufacturing in coming years.

Mayer & Cie is helping to fulfil requirements with a portfolio of machines considered to be the largest in the industry. Highest productivity and efficiency with consistent quality output are major advantages of Mayer & Cie machines which have been proven worldwide. Less man power, space requirement and lowest electricity consumption of Mayer & Cie machines further reduce cost of production. All developmental activities will primarily focus on saving environment and reducing energy consumption, through trademark “Blue Competence” Mayer & Cie commits to Sustainability.

Other growing trend is use of recycled yarn i.e. regenerated fibre from used garments/textiles also from PET bottles. Recycled OE yarns with wide range of colours are available in different composition of blends, including: cotton, cotton and polyester, cotton and viscose, cotton poly and viscose, cotton poly and wool blends. Many customers are producing garments such as tees, hoodies, lowers, sweatshirts, terry towels, thermal wear, sweaters, and socks. It offers cost advantage as OE colour yarn cost is very competitive to that of standard raw material.

Other main advantage is sustainability. This contributes to the global effort by reducing carbon footprints, using fewer natural resources, consuming textile waste and to complete the loop in the textile value chain. Mayer & Cie Relanit technology can process OE yarns better than conventional technique.

How do you find the market for your knitting machinery and solutions in India? What is driving the demand for your knitting products in the country?
Considering highest young population in world, India is expected to grow in very big way in coming years. Due to sizeable domestic market and huge export opportunities phenomenal growth is expected in the knitwear segment. We are confident of massive opportunities for Indian knitting industry. With current geo political situation, supply chain disruption and uncertainties over investments in China, India is certain to regain its pole position in the world of textiles. Consequently, machines with modern technology, higher productivity and reliability will have excellent potential.

Some of the growth drivers are:

  • Pandemic has changed the world of fashion; “Casualisation” trend is driving knits demand
  • Demand for active wear/sportswear is growing due to rising health awareness
  • Supply chain re-jigs; World is looking to develop alternate supply sources
  • E-commerce (online retail market) is further driving comfort/casual wear market
  • Policy initiatives like Make In India, Production Linked Incentives (PLI) scheme, textile parks (MITRA), etc will give boost to textile industry

  • What is Mayer & Cie offerings for Indian market? How does it help enhance the quality and quantity outputs?
Mayer & Cie can already fulfil many requirements with a portfolio of machines considered to be the largest in the industry.

For example, it offers superior productivity in single and double jersey. In Relanit 3.2 HS, the latest offering from very well proven Relanit family, relative movement of needle & sinker allows less stress and, thus, higher speed without yarn breakage during loop formation. Due to unmatched productivity at 1500 speed factor, this machine is suitable for high volumes and higher utilisation for both plain single jersey as well spandex jersey, also all four track structure can be knitted. Another unique feature of relative technology is lower yarn cost i.e. inferior quality or low CSP yarn, recycled OE yarn can be used at higher speed without compromising productivity and fabric quality.

S4 3.2 II is the most versatile, simple and high production four track machine most popular in India. We have sold over 3000 units during recent past.

Looking at double jersey, the D4 platform is well established. D4 2.2 HPI machines are highest production machines in interlock sector. The D4 2.2 II is widely employed for producing classic rib. D4 3.2 II is most versatile machines for interlock, eight lock structures. Due to unmatched productivity & consistent quality and due to lowest running cost D4 2.2 HPI, D4 2.2 II, D4 3.2 II model become benchmark for higher productivity and elastomer plaited fabric. Quality is very much appreciated and demanded by exporters and buyers.

Mayer & Cie is in a strong position in India, especially in the manufacture of mattress cover fabrics. Mayer & Cie commands a market share of over 70 per cent for electronic mattress machines. It owes this position to two machines in particular: the OVJA 1.6 E and the OVJA 2.4 E.

What according to you are the upcoming opportunities in sportswear and active wear segment in next years? What are Mayer & Cie offerings for this segment?
According to a research reports for the global market for sports and fitness clothing is projected to reach $ 230 billion by 2024. The research, also indicates that technological developments designed to improve comfort and performance has also led to the growth in sales of sports apparel.

According to reports from various internet sources, India is expected to witness a massive growth in the sports apparel industry because of high population base of over 1 billion with ever changing consumer preferences. A shift in lifestyle of the young generation and the rapid response of adaption to new trends with greater disposable income are booming sports apparel sector. The Indian sportswear market grew over 18 percent during last few years, outpacing the segment’s global increase of 7 percent.

Again Mayer & Cie is champion in this rapidly growing specialised segment. Knitwear, today, is more appealing and attractive and performance oriented. New-age creative knitting technologies such as body mapping offers possibility of constructing a garment based upon the body's response to activity – and the activity itself. Garments are thoughtfully-designed to retain heat in some areas, release it in others and use optimal fabrics and functional enhancements where necessary to serve you better. The tailored body mapping specialised structures are offered with Mayer & Cie’s new MJ 3.2 E. Its 3-way technology enables the knit a wide range of patterns while its 2-way technology ensures high productivity, with maximum plating accuracy owing to extreme technology. With the introduction of tailored Athleisure, knitwear has become a sophisticated addition to the existing trend.

Along with the new MJ 3.2 E and the Relanit machines, Mayer & Cie has other machines in its portfolio that are peak sportswear performers. The MV4-3.2 II and the S4-3.2 produce fine-gauge knitwear made of various synthetic fibres. Both knit fine gauges, the MV4-3.2 II even up to E60, and are suitable for making running shirts. The D4 2.2 II and the D4 3.2 II, both of which are double jersey machines, are very popular models for the production of sportswear. Both produce right/right structures, fine touch and different 8-lock structures. Overall, double jersey is currently very good in demand for sportswear, its microstructures are truly impressive.
