SIMA CD & RA to focus on ELS & organic cotton
The Central Government plans to increase production of high quality Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton, organic cotton and naturally coloured cotton under “AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” and involving SIMA CD & RA in all activities and policy matters.

During CS 2019-20, cotton production is estimated to have increased by 13.6 per cent to 6 million tonnes during CS 2019-20 on account of higher yields backed by favourable monsoon conditions.
CCI to boost cotton exports to Bangladesh, Vietnam
The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), which is holding surplus stocks of cotton just ahead of the next harvest season, is trying to boost exports of the fibre crop. A memorandum of understanding is being worked out to export 1.5-2 million bales (of 170 kilograms each) of cotton to Bangladesh while the state-run CCI will also set up its own warehouse in Vietnam to boost cotton exports.
Cotton acreage to fall, yield to rise
The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has released its first estimates of the crop for the 2015-16 season beginning on October 1 at 380 lakh bales of 170 kg each. This is almost similar to the output of 382 lakh bales achieved in the 2014-15 season.
