Anti-dumping duty on PTA from 5 countries
Indian producers of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), a key raw material for manufacturing polyester chips, have cause for cheer with the Finance Ministry imposing definitive anti-dumping duty (ADD) on its imports from China, Iran, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia. This Revenue Department move-which came less than a month after the recommendation of the designated authority in the Commerce Ministry-is expected to come as a relief for Reliance Industries and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL).
US coated fabric demand to reach 650 mn sq yards
Demand for coated fabrics in the US is forecast to increase 2.1 per cent per year to 650 million square yards in 2020. Coated fabric usage is highly dependent on two factors: the production of end products and the level of competition from alternative materials, such as leather, plastic and rubber sheeting, and uncoated fabrics. Work apace on Nandan Terry’s Rs 500-cr unit
Diversified textile player Chiripal Group is setting up a Rs 500-crore terry towel facility in Ahmedabad district with an initial capacity of 10,696 tonne per annum. Nandan Terry Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary, will begin commercial production in December, a top company official said.
Overall shipments slightly down in 2015
Shipments in some of the textile machinery segments experienced declines in 2015. Deliveries of new short-staple spindles fell by nearly 8 per cent from 2014 to 2015. Shipped long-staple spindles and open-end rotors decreased by 61 per cent and 6 per cent, respectively.

WACKER, the Munich-based chemical company, has launched an innovative hydrophilic fabric softener for factory textile finishing. The new product, which is called WETSOFT® NE 750, does not only improve the softness of textiles, but also retains the ability to absorb water. This is particularly important for towels and materials that need to remain absorbent after finishing. The silicone fluid formulation is marketed as a water-free concentrate.
